According to the legends it was belief that the King RamaBhoja, an enthusiastic follower of Parashurama set up the statue of Anantheshwara and Chandreshwara temple was constructed in the place where Chandra (the Moon) had performed a penance to get purge from the oath of Daksha Prajapathi.

Sri Madhvacharya detected the situation with his ‘aparoksha’ (the divine Knowledge) when he was in meditation, then by flapping the end of his saffron robe and by making the storm quieter he brought the ship safely to the sea sore.

The Capitan of the ship delighted Madhvacharya to make offer in return for saving the ship. Madhvacharya asked to offer a piece of a sandalwood which having the statue of Sri Krishna. Well ahead it was said that Sri Madhvacharya purified it in lake and installed it in the matt.

According to Sri Raghuvara the story of installation of Sri Krishna statue goes as follows.
