This Keesaragutta temple is also known as the Sri Ramalingeswara Swamy temple. This temple is just 40 km away from Hyderabad city. This temple located in the Keesaragutta Mandal that built before the 4th century.

The main temple of Lord Shiva constructed on Samadhi of Shri Prabhu in granite. There are five stares gopuram built on the entrance of this ancient temple. The main idol of Keesaragutta temple is Lord Shiva in the form of Shiva Linga avatar and worshipped with a name of Sri Ramalingeswara Swamy

Keesaragutta Temple History:

As per the legends, Lord Rama killed Ravana (Brahman), so that Lord Rama installed the Siva Lingams at different places in that Keesaragutta is one of the beautiful places. He ordered Hanuman to bring Shivalingam from Varanasi. Lord Hanuman was late in arriving with Sivalinga, and Lord Shiva himself appeared before Sri Rama presented

So that this Shivalingam called Swayambhu. After that, Hanuman returned with 101 Shiva lingams from Varanasi and felt sad not installed his bought lingam. For that, he threw them all over the area.

Even today, you can see several Shiva lingams scattered all over the outside of the temple space. Sri Rama ordained the precedence that given him for worship at the temple. And Lord Rama said that the hillock where the Shiva lingam installed would bear the name of Kesarigiri (Hanuman son name Kesari) later the name changed as Kesara and that Sacred Shiva lingam at this temple called as Ramalingeswara Swamy
