About Kumararama Bhimeswara Temple Samarlakota:

This Kumararama Bhimeswara Temple is also called as Sri Kumararama Bhimeswara Swamy temple also Bhimarama temple. This temple is built in Dravidian style architecture in 9^th century AD. The temple till now still strong and it made the national heritage site.

This temple has a special Nandi idol and mounts Lord Shiva called Ekasila Nandi that is made up of a single stone. The temple main entrance of this temple called Surya Dwaram. Main temple two Prakara walls specially built of dressed sandstone.

This temple contains both Turpu Chalukyas and Kakatiyas sculpture designs. And temple four entrance Mandapam is supported with hundred pillars. It was in existence for so many years also reconstructed by these dynasties

History of Kumararama Bhimeswara Swamy Temple Samalkot

Based on Skanda and Brahmanda Purana, Demon Tarakasura theft Amrutha Atma Linga that emerged during Ksheerasagar Santhanam. Demon Tarakasura wearing this Linga around his neck to become unbeatable. But the Siva Parvathi’s son Kumara Swamy faces Tarakasura in war.

Kumaraswamy uses the Shakthi weapon to kill the demon Tarakasura. Kumaraswamy broken demon body into so many pieces and they have reunified again. And Kumaraswamy confused advice from Vishnu

The Lord Vishnu advised that break Shiva linga into pieces and the demon can be killed. Kumaraswamy used Agni weapon to break that Shiva Linga. The Lord Shiva Amrutha Atma linga broke into 5 pieces and gods tried to reunite by making Chant “OM”

Then Indra, Vishnu, Surya, Chandra, and Kumaraswamy worshipped the Linga’s at respective places. And places, where the five pieces fell there Pancharama Kshetras, are built.

Here presiding deity Lord Shiva in the form of big Shiva Linga. Kumararama Bhimeswara Temple has Shiva Linga in white color. This Shiva ling is limestone at height 14 feet. The goddess of this temple is Bala Tripura Sundari. This Shiva Lingam present at the temple was installed by Lord Kumaraswamy
